Marimekko

Marimekko is a Finnish design house founded in 1951 by Viljo and Armi Ratia.

When founding Marimekko in the early 1950’s, Armi Ratia created one of the world’s first lifestyle brands. She had a remarkable ability to capture the spirit of her time, presenting the world with her much-welcomed vision for optimism and personal joy.  The journey began with a simple dress in captivating prints.

Our lifelong mission is to bring color and joy into lives and homes everywhere and encourage people to be happy as they are.

Pre-fall 2022

Marimekko’s Pre-Fall 2022 collection draws inspiration from human imprint and interaction. The third collection under the realm of Creative Director Rebekka Bay is defined by contemporary craft, tactile materials and silhouettes that trace the body’s forms through artisanal techniques such as pinching, pleating and twisting. In addition, the collection includes a special collaboration between the brand and French artist Virginie Hucher, resulting in a collection of wearable art.

Modular outerwear and recycled bags

For Pre-Fall 2022, Marimekko presents a set of modular outerwear, designed for layering accordingly with seasonal shifts. The new outerwear assortment includes a light-padded jacket, parka jacket and trench coat. The bags and accessories line introduces a new bag entity: the Wear All Day -bag, which is made of 100% recycled nylon. In terms of seasonal prints, the abstract patterns by Antti Kekki emphasize the transition from previous rich botanical and floral references towards more muted fall hues, representing nature’s own ecosystem. The Hepokatti and Naatit prints display dried flowers while wild autumn berries decorate the delicate Apajat design.

Wearable art: Introducing the virginie Hucher capsule collection:

For Pre-Fall 2022 Marimekko has collaborated with French artist Virginie Hucher, resulting in five unique pieces around her artworks. In the capsule, the Marimekko dress represents more than a mere canvas, as the silhouettes have been designed around the shapes of the original artworks.
