Losing her glow to work and insufficient sleep, Hoyer set out to create a skincare brand for the multifaceted working woman, who – like herself – needed results but didn’t have time for a lengthy beauty routine. Born out of those sleepless nights, BYNACHT is based on science suggesting nighttime is in fact the best time for skincare, as skin renewal is up to eight times faster. Good quality sleep… 

… and great skincare are essential for repairing and renewing your skin. Some might think it’s just a catchphrase, but beauty sleep is the real thing and the evidence backing it is astounding. 

My recipe for beauty sleep is…  

… 7-8 hours of good, restorative sleep, preferably starting before midnight, with BYNACHT products applied to a well-cleansed face. I go to bed at 9.30 pm and get up at 4.30 am every day. Getting seven or eight hours of sleep is crucial for me because while time is passing as we’re sound asleep our skin’s clock turns backwards during that time. 

A lack of restorative sleep will… 

… not only leave your eyes looking puffy in the morning, but our body perceives loss of sleep, or lack of quality sleep, as stress. Those stress signals not only cause breakouts, but also make the skin less capable of trapping moisture and it slows down skin cell turnover. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is, it is scientifically impossible to look and feel good in our skin if we don’t rest properly.

My ultimate self-care ritual:

Taking time to unwind every evening. I found that if I incorporate this little luxury of me-time daily, it pays off in the long run. I take 10-30 minutes every evening when my son is asleep. I start off by applying my Perfect Nacht White Noise Balm, light a candle, put on a relaxing playlist, and write all my to do’s in my calendar so they are out of my head when I go to sleep. I end the day with letting go of the things I cannot control. After I have cleaned my face and applied skincare, I apply the Perfect Nacht Sleeping Balm and fall into bed feeling grateful. 

On the nights I come home late… 

… I skip the candles and music, but I still clean my face and I would never skip applying my serums and creams. As this is my unwinding time, I would maybe only take ten minutes – but I always take time to unwind before I go to bed.

The best way to recharge your skin is… 

… exfoliation. One of the biggest contributors to dull, tired looking skin is the accumulation of expired skin cells.

Phones! I never use my phone in bed as I know it contributes to a poor quality sleep and the alerting properties delay REM sleep. Your brain is awaken and scrolling can lead to anxiety, which also makes it harder to fall asleep and keeps your body in stress mode. Inflammation and other skin and overall body issues will occur, and once you know that, it’s easy to put it away. 

On my nightstand I always keep: 

Perfect Nacht Sleeping Balm, Perfect Nacht White Noise Balm, a good book, and a journal. If I can’t sleep or my mind is racing because I am having an idea late at night, I write it down so it’s off my mind but there when I wake up.  

For the days you haven’t had enough sleep… 

… I would start with a cold shower in the morning and then do a lymphatic massage on my skin. That really works wonders.
