Face oil has had a breakthrough in the beauty industry lately. Here’s what you need to know about the benefits of the golden drops.

Face oil has had its breakthrough in the beauty industry, with cosmetologists and makeup artists alike happily recommending oil as part of a daily beauty routine. But even though face oils are more and more often to be found on bathroom shelves, it can still seem odd to some – perhaps mostly those with oily skin – that adding even more moisture can be beneficial. To learn more about the golden drops, we enlisted the help of Camilla Falkvist from Été Beauty Collective, who is a cosmetologist and a firm believer in the greatness of face oil.

Invest in high quality

Before you reach for your wallet, you should consider the quality of each oil. "Oil lasts a long time, compared to creams, and is also a natural product which means that it does not contain any additives or chemicals – at least not if you invest in a quality oil," Falkvist explains. "When using the right amount of face oil, it will nurture and moisturize your skin.”

Consider your specific skin type

Not all skin types will benefit from all oils, so it is important that you consider the actual needs of your skin. If you are dealing with oily skin, it might seem a bit strange to add even more moisture, but if you choose the right kind of oil, it can actually be beneficial. "People with oily skin might be a bit skeptical when it comes to face oil. But a light oil of high quality will balance out an overproduction of sebum and make your skin more comfortable. Last but not least, it is important for all skin types to switch to a lighter oil when the weather is hot," Falkvist adds.

Beauty Tips

1. Oil is best absorbed on moist skin.
2. If you still feel the oil on your skin after 10 minutes, you have put on too much.

Consider your personal needs

"It is vital that you go for vegetable oils that do not clog your skin. And then you have to consider the needs of your specific skin type,” Falkvist says.

As she explains, the different types of oils all have different effects.  Ylang-ylang and rose calms the skin. Rosehip seed oil is great for mature and aging skin. Pomegranate oil reduce both redness and sensitivity. Jojoba works for all skin types. Argan, grape seed and pomegranate oil are all great for facial use as they absorb quickly.
