Colorful lips and lashes are not as daunting as you may think.

When it comes to makeup, the comfort of a nude, earthy-toned palette is hard to let go of. However, if the past months’ Zoom calls have taught us anything, it must be that makeup is a vital tool when all else fails. Perhaps this has forced you to revisit old techniques or realize it’s an area for improvement. Nonetheless, adding a dash of color will make sure you look fresh and on-point for all meetings – whether virtual or physical. Incorporating bold colors in your makeup routine can seem scary, but before you panic, there are in fact many ways to still keep it classic and natural while applying the radiant hues. Here’s three simple and colorful makeup trends to try this Fall.

Blush

Blush is a great way to introduce color into your makeup routine in an understated and sophisticated way. If you’re new to blush, a failsafe pink is suitable to almost any skin tone, but peach and corals are also colors in high demand and will give your skin a healthy glow. Whatever color you go for, don't be scared of it being too bold as the intensity of a blush rarely translates to the skin. Instead it applies a subtle pop of color. Dub some on your cheeks, and if you’re feeling courageous, bring it up to your temples and brow bones as well.

Colored mascara

If you’re feeling bolder try adding a pop of color to the eyes. While the affinity for colorful eyeliner and eyeshadow is still very current, nailing the look takes both time and practice. Instead you should start small and reach for a colored mascara. The holy-grail of the makeup bag rarely gets a shake up from the traditional black. But just because black is the commonly used color doesn’t mean it's the best. This year, it seems beauty brands have come to the same conclusion as they have started popping out mascaras in all sorts of shades. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different ones. Colored mascaras aren’t as noticeable as you would think, making them a fun color-twist to a subtle look.

Red lips

If you feel like adding color is outside your beauty comfort zone, this is a good place to start. Red lips are nothing revolutionary but if you’re taking your beauty cues from the runway, this season’s painted lips should be nothing beside the flaming hue. The bold lip was spotted everywhere from Saint Laurent, Chloé and Longchamp to MSGM and Marni. And the classic makeup look is easy to fall for once you’ve tried it. Besides taking a second to apply, a red lip has the ability to make you feel strong and pulled together in an instant. Be it scarlet, merlot or cherry red; whatever nuance you choose make sure it's intense and attention-seeking.
