The Artist

Mathias Iversen

Experience the unique universe of Mathias Iversen at ILLUM from August 12 to October 20. Born in 1992, Mathias Iversen is a student at the Bifrost Art School in Randers.

He has created a unique universe through his black-and-white drawings, where the figures reflect his perception of humanity and its true nature. His artworks are characterized by their richness in detail and depth, highlighted through the use of ink pens. Inspired by Japanese culture and manga, Mathias’ art brings a special aesthetic that combines traditional techniques with modern expressions.

Mathias is part of an inspiring and creative environment at Bifrost, where the school has developed to accommodate 21 students since 1995. Mathias actively participates in the common teaching activities and works individually on his projects.

About Bifrost

Art school for adults with developmental disabilities. The art school has six teachers, all of whom are practicing artists with both pedagogical and artistic backgrounds. The teaching at Bifrost allows students to develop their skills through working with various materials and techniques in drawing, painting, graphics, and sculpture. Additionally, they are taught color and material theory as well as art history, and students have the opportunity to participate in museum and gallery visits.

The school year concludes with a student exhibition where Mathias and the other students showcase their works. Bifrost students exhibit continuously both in Denmark and internationally, and several students, including Mathias, have been productive and exhibition-active across borders such as Japan, Ireland, Germany, Scotland, Hungary, France, Belgium, and Finland. Some have even given talks about their works, been featured on TV, and participated in juried exhibitions in France and Germany.
